Acquiring Clinical Judgment is a supplement to Theory and Design in Counseling and Psychotherapy by Susan Day. It augments the text by: *helping one to study the chapter content in a condensed form; *providing case examples with which to practice conceptualization and treatment planning; *guiding consideration of the interplay among personality, case, and theoretical orientation; and *teaching one to read--with professional understanding--scholarly articles on counseling and psychotherapy. The focus in on helping to build the clinical judgment that will assist in therapy and academic pursuits.
This is a refreshing change: a textbook that's readable, even entertaining at times. The author doesn't write in smarter-than-you "scholarese" & leave you to translate to plain English, but instead writes as if speaking to an intelligent person who doesn't happen to be familiar with the field. I like the bios of the major theorists, and the case studies used for illustration: after all, "people persons" like to hear about real people.
