Absence from work, regardless of the reason, is a serious indicator of the quality of care provided to health service users, due to the reduced productivity of the professionals who remain present, as well as the operational costs. In this sense, this book examines the absenteeism profile found among workers at a hospital in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul, RS, in 2012, presenting professional characteristics, worker profiles, and reasons for absence. Given the significant number and importance of absenteeism in all contexts, which harms both employers and employees, this work can contribute, first, to understanding the profile of absenteeism in hospitals, so that effective measures can be implemented to minimize it.
