This book of sea stories is a gripping work written in the tense spare style of Jack London. Here on the high seas-- from the Chesapeake to the Caribbean are men at women on personal quests for freedom and re-creation. Jack Greer knows the sailing life from stem to stern. The people in his stories are often in danger or under stress and they show the heroic side of the American character that is often vacant in the "new" American fiction. "Abraham's Bay" is a wonderful set of 11 short stories that each take you on an emotional journey. Every page kept my interest. I became personally involved with the kaleidoscope of characters wanting to know more about each one. Each story seemed to touch on one of the lessons we must learn in life; loss of dreams, infatuation, mother's love, guilt, fear, vulnerability, aging, stages of relationships, unconditional love, etc. I wish each was a book in itself.
