Above Snakes
She crossed the country to marry one man. Then she fell for the man who killed him.
Montana Territory, 1869.
Jenny Ames arrives in the mining town of Above Snakes bruised, penniless, and newly acquainted with death. Masked riders attacked her stagecoach on the mountain road. The man she traveled west to marry is already dead. Every promise he made her was a lie.
Stranded in a town of silver mines, saloons, and men who mistake desperation for consent, Jenny takes refuge at the Devil's Drop and accepts the only respectable work available to her. Then she meets Dick Slade-the cold-eyed professional gambler who shot her intended during a botched robbery.
Dick is dangerous, unsentimental, and far too perceptive. He sees the fury beneath Jenny's good manners and offers her something no respectable man ever has: the freedom to become exactly who she is.
But someone else has already chosen Jenny.
The masked Devil who robbed her stagecoach has not forgotten the woman who fought back. As violence closes around her, Jenny must decide which man she should fear-the outlaw with blood on his hands or the gentleman who promises to keep her safe.
Because in the American West, marriage can become a prison, respectability can hide monstrous appetites, and sometimes the only man a woman can trust is the one the law calls dangerous.
Above Snakes is a dark, explicit Gothic Western romance featuring an indomitable heroine, a ruthless gambler, masked outlaws, brothel found family, obsessive pursuit, and a hard-won happily ever after.
