I dabbled with both Surgical Recall and Secrets, and this one is clearly better. Presented in the same Q & A style as Recall, it spares you all the space fillers. Instead, it is more concise and extremely helpful. Unlike Recall, each chapter in the book hits the essential questions about clinical management and takes a very evidence-based approach. It is not bogged down with basic questions like, "What is a hernia?" Rather, it is filled with cutting-edge science, and it explains both sides of controversial areas of medicine too. Seriously, this text actually prepares you for your attendings' questions. I found it very valuable on my third-year surgery rotation and would recommend it.

How many times have you taken a written exam, an oral board type test, or been bombarded with questions while on hospital rounds that simple textbook consultation failed to prepare you to handle? This book is great for medical students doing surgery rotations as well as general surgery residents trying to improve their knowledge base. I read it twice during my surgery residency and found it quite helpful. Shell out a few bucks and buy this book. It's worth it.
