A2 Milk

Many of you are not familiar with A2 milk. Basically this is milk from certain dairy cows We have drunk from various animals for thousands of years. Over the last thousand years, this animal has been the dairy cow. It used to be that most cows produced A2 milk. In modern times most now produce A1 milk. Here is the difference. A1 milk has a histidine amino acid at position 67, A2 has a proline amino acid at this position. During digestion, a seven-amino acid peptide, called beta-casomorphin-7 (BCM7), can be cut away from the A1 beta-casein protein by enzymes in the gut, but these same enzymes cannot form this protein in A2 milk. Hence, A2 milk does not contain this protein (BCM7) as a product of digestion. The BMC7 protein does cause adverse effects in certain people. It also changes the gut biome. We now believe it may effect the immune system. That is not to say A1 milk is not healthy in most, but some may be able to tolerate A2 milk who cannot tolerate A1 milk. Almost all of us believe the best milk for newborns and toddlers is breast milk. Eventually most infants convert to dairy milk. It may be your kids will be better off if you use A2 instead of A1. A1 milk is available in every supermarket, right next to A1 milk which is considered to be normal milk. It may cost slightly more. In any case, the food engeineer in the family will be wise to consider this information.
