It was mostly disastrous, directed by Director Ava DuVernay, who evidently never read the book. Hot on his heels is disasterer Oprah Winfrey, who had some agenda of her own. Between the two and supported by the new Disney staff, they replaced the flying horse and other magical creatures with lots of reticules, filler CGI cutesy things.
The story was also twisted to the point that you do not recognize American author Madeleine L'Engle's story or writing. To be fair, they did say "Adapted", which gives them a poetic license. But when you take so many liberties that it destroys the purpose of the story...well.
This is similar to Joseph Campbell's "Hero's Journey" scenario. Where Meg Murray, Charles Wallace Murray, and Calvin O'Keefe go through trials and tribulations, confronting good, evil, and many emotions to emerge as better people.
The question is, will they find the missing father, and if so, what else will reveal itself? This is an adaptation of the first in a series of books.
“A Wrinkle in Time” (2003), TV-PG, 4h 11m, also produced by Disney, is a much better presentation.
