Twenty-four years ago, a rebellious group called the Reformers violently overthrew the government. Their goal was to eradicate emotional harm by banning offensive speech and eliminating provocative forms of entertainment including comedy, books, music, and movies. In present society, using illegal words and phrases is a criminal offense that is punished severely through torture and public executions. But a new rebellion is brewing beneath the surface. Iris, a woman studying to become a Reformer, has a chance encounter with a mysterious group of people which changes everything. Entering dangerous territory, the mysterious group teaches Iris to push the limits of what society allows her to say and do. Iris must decide where her true loyalty lies, knowing that both her life and the lives of countless others depend on her choice.
