In reviewing this book, I'd have to say that I was most moved by the author's personal background retrospective content. I agree with the previous reviewer: the author does share a lot of wisdom. It took me a little longer to figure it out. I was born in Los Angeles, in the late 1950's, and enjoy reading about "the Los Angeles of the past", "the city that was" before I was born here. Much of that world, as he describes it, is still here in bricks and mortar, but I suppose that most of the people in it have passed on into the next world. The author, at 90, becomes a "time machine" or "time-portal", or whatever we might call that phenomenon. I like stories of the recent past, though I'd hardly consider myself as one who suffers from nostalgia. I'd just like to see more stories about that time from him. His writing style works for me in a mind-visualization, "movie-of-the-mind" sort of way. Does that make sense? I'm not a writer, clearly. I'm a reader, and enjoyed reading his book. Also, I want to say that the main content which is not historical in that sense, is easy to read and, it does stick to the mind. I didn't think I'd remember anything I'd read, but later, I found I was thinking about the short essays he'd written, and went back to reread them again. I agree that it is wisdom, and as such, it doesn't necessarily dawn on you right away how acute it is. Wisdom might be more like a pain or a bruise: it takes a bit of time to develop into something more in a person. Luckily, the good Doctor here has something to share that might help a person "see" and "heal" a little quicker towards understanding and resolution. I'm looking forward to any more stories that the author might choose share with us. Thank you, Dr. Goldberg, for sharing!
