A Wide Spot in the Road

A work of great learning and skilful synthesis, beautifully illustrated. SUNDAY TIMESThe spectacular festivals mounted by the princes of the Renaissance were both a marriage of the arts and a complex and subtle expression of political theory. From the Renaissance festivals ballet, opera and even the proscenium arch theatre are derived. Festivals are therefore a vital part of European cultural history. Here Roy Strong provides a guide to their origins and purpose, and their lasting influence.

Not as good as his first book, but worth the read.

"Send Fresh Horses" was Budd's first first venture into the humorous side of cowboy life, specifically Wyoming cowboy life. "A Wide Spot in the Road" is more humorous stories. He used his best material in the first book, but cowboy fans or humor lovers will enjoy these tales too.
