A USA Today Bestseller Ben Rosewood never meant to be bound to a vampire succubus, especially one as sexy-yet-terrifying as Eleonore Bettencourt-Devereux, but he has to admit there are some fang-tastic perks.... Werewolf Ben Rosewood is happy with his life. One hundred percent. Everything is fine. His business, Ben's Plant Emporium, is thriving, and he's even expanding the shop. His anxiety disorder is...well, it's been better, but that comes with the territory of running a business and having beastly urges every full moon, right? As for romance--who has the time? Though his family is desperate to see him settled, Ben is fine approaching forty as a single werewolf. But after drunkenly bidding on and winning a supposedly-possessed crystal on eBay one night, he finds himself face-to-face with a beautiful yet angry vampire. Eleonore Bettencourt-Devereux is a rare breed--a vampire succubus born from two elite European bloodlines during medieval times. Thanks to an evil witch, she's been stuck in a crystal since she was thirty, forced to obey orders from the possessor of the rock. Eleonore's been dreaming of breaking the spell and severing the witch's head for centuries. But did this witch really sell her to someone new, and for only ninety-nine cents? Eleonore would claw this werewolf's heart out and eat it, if only the binding spell would allow her to. But Eleonore and Ben soon realize they can help each other with both vengeful and less hostile needs. And why not have a little fun along the way?
What happens when an anxiety-ridden werewolf buys a plastic crystal that houses a centuries-old vampire succubus? Well, that is what Ben Rosewood has to find out when he accidentally buys Eleonore Bettencourt-Devereux for ninety-nine cents while drunk and lonely after his friend's wedding. Being tricked over 6 centuries ago by the Witch in the Woods, Eleonore was made to kill the maddened witch's enemies due to the binding spell that enslaved her. The new owner of the crystal, Ben, must figure out a balancing strategy to cope with his expanding plant business and new cafe annex, his sister's pop-up mayoral campaign, and his new beautiful and blunt vampire roommate. Not to mention, break the curse and help the vivaciously vengeful Eleonore get her freedom - And is it just him, or is she giving him steamy looks when he wears sweater vests? (She totally is.)
That's it, I am done with this town. I am moving to Glimmer Falls, and no one can stop me... What do you mean it's not real?! But I need more magical goodness!—
Ahem.
Book review: onward. As of writing this, I'm not even past the first month of 2025, and I may have just found my favorite book series of the year. Luckily for me, there are two more books set in Glimmer Falls before this, A Witch's Guide to Fake Dating a Demon and A Demon's Guide to Wooing a Witch, and you best believe I am getting them ASAP!
The entire book spanned about four months, and the pacing was wonderful. Both Ben and Eleonore's points of view were woven beautifully between chapters, which helped to understand both of their mindsets in each scene, whether it was suspenseful, silly, or steamy. Both characters had their own goals, and yes, it was an interesting and wild ride between the magical and mundane, but it was their emotions for each other and their personal growth that really made the story soar.
I absolutely adored the themes of consent and consideration of your partner. I'm still pretty new to the whole romantasy, or even just romance, scene, so this may be a more usual thing that I realize. But between Ben's self-doubt and overthinking, and Eleonore's slowly evolving act-first think-second attitude, the care and attention they showed each other made their relationship very special to me.
Not to mention the entire cast of characters - including the two main couples from the previous book in the series - were just as vibrant and colorful as the main couple. Quite literally in Temmie the pixie's case, but all of their clashing and caring personalities fit perfectly together, in this fabulous town somewhere in the US. And possibly in the demonic plane, which I am very curious to find out more about!
If you like contemporary romance, or urban fantasy with spicy romance, or just some excellent comedy, slight action, and supernatural creatures, or all of the above, I beg thee... READ THIS BOOK! You will never regret it.
