As a parent we want to plant little seeds of wisdom in our children's life that will hopefully one day flourish and bloom along with them as they enter adulthood. I have often heard them referred to well known facts. I decided that it might be fun to teach those well known facts in a different and imaginative way, and so the Well Gnome Facts were written. A lovely little group of Gnomes that live in an enchanted bed whose soul purpose in life is to teach the owner of the bed their wise and helpful well gnome facts. Sometimes they use some pretty creative ways to get those facts taught. In the first book Oliver, a young boy, age ten, gets the bed that had been forgotten about in his attic, a month before Christmas. The gnomes were so excited to finally be back in service again And did they ever have their work cut out for them. Oliver was a bit of a toy hoarder and the gnomes work tirelessly all month trying to teach Oliver a well gnome fact they felt he needed to learn. In the end after a lot of fun and creative techniques, Oliver finally learns and even surprises the Gnomes and his parents with his Christmas Eve decision. The "Fact" I wanted to teach here was as follows. I think often times kids get so consumed with the me, me, me, I want this and that and etc, when in reality there is so much more in the world then just what gift I will be getting. So without completely bumming everyone out of their Christmas spirit, I hoped this book would shine a light on some of those needs that are out their and maybe inspire children to be a little more gracious and to think of others. In the second book, Piper, Oliver's little sister, inherits the bed. For a few months the gnomes try their hardest to teach the rather messy Piper, that cleanliness is a virtue. However their lessons soon get an abrupt halt when the whole Chance family decides to move to the country. Piper who is not fond of change is now thrown into a new chapter of her life. Getting her to appreciate the change and what it could mean for her is now a challenge for both her parents and siblings to teach. This is a well gnome fact that the gnomes should have been trying to teach but they themselves are having a difficult time with the change as well. The bed is left behind in the old house and the gnomes venture into the abandon home where barn gnomes once lived in the rafters. Some gnomes stay behind to try and stop the sell of the old house. Will Piper learn to love farm living with all of its new challenges and will the gnome community ever come back together again. The "Fact" here, I don't know about other kids but my kids fear change. And change can be scary and sometimes it's not great but sometimes is wonderful Yes sometimes we have to move and leave friends, but we get to meet new ones And sometimes we have to leave are familiar surroundings but the new surroundings might be fifty times better with new adventures in store for us and new places to discover. I wanted this book to help kids learn how to deal with change and to see the possible beauty that awaits them if they just embark and try their hardest to enjoy the journey.I have four children and they all are so very different. My oldest is Oliver and he was the main character of my first book. The second book was written about my second oldest Piper. The facts the gnomes teach are things that my children actually struggle with. This was just a creative way of dealing with them. My other two kiddos have not inspired a well gnome fact, yet Ha, I'm sure they will one day and another book will emerge from within.
