This is intended as the first in a series of cozy mysteries which take place In an island community off the East Coast. The story centers around Amy Lee, a thirty-three year old ER physician who left her island home after the loss of a close friend in a drowning accident following her high school graduation. She returns fifteen years later when her father, also a doctor, has a sudden heart attack and is not expected to survive.Upon her return she meets her best friend from high school, Stacey Swanson, and agrees to meet her on the beach to "catch up". While waiting for her friend to arrive, she sees a body, floating in the water, and rushes out to try to rescue him, only to find that it is the body of the friend she thought had perished fifteen years earlier. To make matters worse, this time it appears that he has succumbed to a murder attempt and her younger brother is the prime suspect. Promising to help him by finding the true killer, she embarks on an investigation, but her efforts are hindered by her father's deteriorating health, the attraction she develops to his handsome doctor, the efforts of the Chief of Police to rekindle their high school romance and the multiple island residents who might have had a motive to carry out the murder. But as the case against each of the suspects begins to breakdown, Amy begins to have the uncomfortable feeling that one of her former friends might actually be the murderer. And as she gets closer to the truth, her own life is put in danger.
