While learning under the university's tenured professor of Philippine mythology, Cleyo finally meets the other half of a mutual sin that can never be forgiven in striking and equally two-faced Antonio Ortez. Cleyo knows she should cast Antonio out headfirst for a myriad of reasons. The most obvious being the ruin that will befall her parents when their golden child was murdered a year prior, leaving Cleyo to fulfill their expectations in her place. But despite the insatiable and seemingly cosmic draw that links her to Antonio's world, he is bound to Octavia, and Cleyo, in turn, is bound to her older brother, Caesar. If Antonio dares to be unfaithful again in his pursuit of Cleyo, Caesar is not afraid of using violence as a means to avenge all Antonio has unjustly wrought at his sister's expense.
But what neither Cleyo nor Antonio count on is that the fate they are destined to meet involves powers infinitely grander at play than they could ever begin to imagine. Because the scorned wife making up the Bisayan pantheon they both have been chosen to learn about remains vengeful for crimes committed eternities ago, and she will not rest until Cleyo and Antonio pay their eventual price.
