Robyn Williams' second novel, A Twist of Fate, is obviously a labor of love. From the opening scene, she quickly whisks us away to fanciful flights of sheer ecstasy right up to the finale where we exhale only to sigh deeply because the book is about to be over. In the end, every reader will be left to wonder, when will the third book, A Fool's Paradise, be released?
Surprisingly intense, yet romantically driven

A Twist of Fate reminded me of Sydney Sheldon's novel, Stranger in the Mirror. All while Ashela Jordan was struggling to gain her foothold in the music industry, she went through amazing highs and lows. I kept wondering whether she would ever make it to the top and if she did, would she be bitter to the bone. Overall, the story came across so real and life-like that I also kept thinking that much of it sounded biographical. I liked the way real-life characters were drawn into the mix because it added a level of authenticity to the book.Either Ms. Williams did some wonderful research or either she must know someone in the music industry. I say this because Sam Ross could easily be portrayed by Berry Gordy while Ashela clearly mimics Diana Ross. I'm a huge jazz fan so I loved reading about Grover Washington, and all the other notables. The only drawback for me about the story was that I felt as if the love scenes between the main characters was too detailed and graphic. Granted, the scenes were tastefully written, but there were just too many of them for my tastes. There were a number of stories within a story in A Twist of Fate. The subplots were well thought out and added a lot of intrigue and suspense. I believe that readers will really enjoy reading this novel. There's almost something in it for everyone. I certainly look forward to reading the author's next book.
Twistin' and Turnin'

In reading A Twist of Fate I got so intranced at how the story unfolded. Ashela the main character went through soooo many changes during her life that you just got tired for her. Her first encounter with Sam Ross leaves you thinking you know for sure how there lives are going to play out. Just when you think you know what direction the author is about to take you she completely goes another route. She takes you through Ashela's childhood, right through her teenage years and up to adulthood. This sister went through so much but yet she remained in control. There were some nights while I was reading this and I kept saying okay I just know that Sam Ross is going to enter into her life right here. But then she go on a completely different roller coaster ride. Her interactions with her limited friends let you know how much of a loaner she actually was and how her trust was hard to come by. When she and Sam's path finally do cross you want nothing to come into their way. But the author just has that uncanny ability to allow you to let your guard down before you gets you twistin' and turnin' again. Robyn Williams has a most positive future ahead of her with this type of ability to make you not want to put the book down. I truly enjoyed her first effort Preconceived Notions but A Twist Of Fate was even better. What's next? I can't wait. I will definitely recommend this to those I know.
A Riveting Thriller!

Robyn Williams pulls out all the stops in A Twist of Fate. From start to finish, this book is a sure-fire, nail-biting winner! Ashela Jordan is the type of heroine I love to read about. She may have started out timidly as a little girl, but as she grew into adulthood, what a strong, vibrant, and exceptional woman she became. As for Sam Ross, what woman doesn't want someone like him (with his fine self!) When I finally got to the part where they made love, I couldn't believe what I was reading. It read and felt like pure magic! No writer I know of takes the time to set up a romantic scene like Robyn Williams. This is how black love should be portrayed. I thought the author also did a fantastic job with her character development. I felt as though I knew all of these characters personally. Although I read and liked Ms. Williams' first book, Preconceived Notions, this book, A Twist of Fate really knocked my socks off! Something this good has to be a movie beacause it had everything you could want in a good book.Like the author mentions in the front of her book, Denzel Washington and Janet Jackson would make a fine pair as the leading characters.Ms. Williams, please keep up the good work. I eagerly await your next book, A Fool's Paradise.Until then, I'm going to re-read A Twist of Fate!
Outstanding!

I had the pleasure of meeting the author here in Hartford, CT. While I thoroughly enjoyed reading her first book, Preconceived Notions, I can't describe how at a lost for words I am after I finished reading "A Twist of Fate." This book was simply fantabulous. Please know that I fell in love with the characters in this novel, particularly Sam Ross and Ashela Jordan. I loved the detail and the background Ms. Williams used to tell her story. I, too, want a "strong black man" like Sam. He was ruthless and smart when it came to business, yet kind, understanding and loving when it came to Ashela (except when he thought she had cheated on him.) It's a shame we allow silly things to come between us in our relationships, when all it takes is open and honest communication with one another. Yes, sometimes it hurts but A Twist of Fate demonstrates that if we work at it, we can succeed. It was interesting to see how it's okay for a man to cheat, but don't let his woman even think about it.! Still, I can't say which of the author's books I enjoyed the most. She has definitely grown in leaps and bounds in her writing. I can't even begin to image what the next book will entail or which direction she will go.Ms. Williams, just keep the faith, keep writing and keep on observing your people.
