Twelve years have passed since Daniel Sinclair was killed in a freak accident at work, leaving his wife Kiara alone with their young daughter Emily. Her life isn't perfect, but she's happy with the life they've built together.

On New Year's Eve, Kiara and Emily do a Tarot reading for fun. After drawing the Queen of Water in the first reading, she draws it again, but in Reverse. Dismissing the disturbing reading as nothing more than nonsense and an overactive imagination, she goes to bed. Over the next day, she revisits her Tarot decks out of curiosity, drawing the same card or its equivalent each time until a mysterious man with a tattoo of the Queen of Water comes to her with a terrifying message of what's to come. Kiara does everything in her power to prevent the strange man's predictions, only to inadvertently contribute to the very future she tried to avoid. With her once-happy life now in upheaval, her relationships begin to deteriorate as she makes one bad decision after another.
