Outstanding book: I am buying three more to give to friends

At first I thought: This book lists lots of children's books my son might like. All the recommended books I recognized I really liked a lot, so I trusted the author's recommendations. Every recommended book was clearly an outstanding book. But this book is so much more. Every chapter starts with a very thoughtful essay about children, literature, and the value of reading. I thought I knew everything I needed to know about children's books: go to the library, let your kid pick out a book, that's it. But the essays really opened my eyes to the value of children's literature, and how reading changes the life of a child. Buy the book, then buy more copies to give to your friends.
