Taken from files in courthouses and old newspaper is the evidence of a pre-Civil War conspiracy to murder anybody who might stand in the way of pro-slavery forces in western Missouri. One hundred and forty-four years later, wealthy, single businessman Stokely Towles breaks a leg and pauses from his schedule to recover from surgery.
