Understanding the sacred soul

I enjoyed this book because I gained insight into what really "goes on" in the ministry. The shadow side of this profession is real and awareness of it is healthy. With Christ, I want to understand the pastors that I have had the privelage to love and respect. The pressures endured are unimaginable, I'm sure. How can a human remain passionate and pure, whole and holy, sacred and sane? Is God's grace sufficient? The Bible says that it is. If life is ministry for those who attempt to follow Jesus, then the struggles are common to us all, but especially intense for those called by God into public ministry. A TIME FOR HEALING is a book for anyone longing to understand themselves and others within their church family. I recommend it for those sensing God's call to ministry within the helping professions, pastors, their spouses, friends, as well as members of a congregation who are compelled to nurture and/or enable those in leadership positions. With characteristic transparency, Seymour uses biblical characters as models to address and understand the perils prevalent in ministry. Topics such as sexual misconduct, ambition, burnout, and the need to be "held" through the lonliness of spiritual dryness are confronted with courage and compassion. Using the Enneagram as a tool for self-awareness and a 21 day renewal program, this book is an insightful guide toward healing the sacred soul. Seymour exposes the high-risk nature of pastoral work, the demons that are "out there", the need for high standards and accountability. With God's help, awareness and acceptance, these perils can hopefully be overcome.
