Tullibody, a village in Clackmannanshire - Scotland's smallest county - is reputed to be one of the oldest villages in Scotland. There is evidence of early peoples living in the area since 4000BC. Druids, Picts, Romans, Scots and Saints have all passed here. Until the 1950s Tullibody was a small rural village revolving around its Tannery. After the war it expanded rapidly to support the coal-mining industry. The author describes this transition, from 1940 to 1960, sharing the experience of village life during post-war austerity and the eventual pressure of industrialisation.
