A Texan's Luck

This was my third book my Jodo Thomas, and I really enjoyed it. I find that I am drawn to the male character, he is at first shown as cold, but we soon see that he really is just a man with a job that is his life and all that he is. Lacy is my favorite of the three ladies from the wagon trail. She makes the book much more fun than the first two female characters. I came away from this trilogy for w good feeling of knowing the charactes all meant well and did make it too a happy ending. The story was good but it did go from one problem to the next and putting those together it seems was a bit difficult for the writer. Overall the book was very enjoyable and I plan on keeping it for a reread, but I am confused as to why Jodi Thomas books are so expensive?? You find most authours for 50. to 5.00, but Ms. Thomas's books are very high in cost at second hand sites.

No matter how often I read it, I still enjoy this book.

When Jodi Thomas writes a GOOD western historical romance it is really hard for me to find fault with it. This book is the telling of the final part of a story which began when three young women were forced to leave a wagon train through no fault of their own. Bailee, Sarah and Lacy were left alone to fend for themselves and happened to encounter a truly horrible man named Zeb Whitaker. The women thought they had killed Whitaker when he tried to kidnap Lacy. They left his body on the prairie and made their way to the nearest town and turned themselves in as murderers. The problem came when the sheriff couldn't find the body of the man they were supposed to have killed. In order to provide safety for the women in a very hostile sitution Sheriff Riley organized a wife lottery. Lacy was married by proxy to Frank Walker Larson after his father drew her name. Larson was serving in the Army and made it very plain that he did not want a wife, not Lacy, not any woman. The only part of this book which makes me a little uneasy is the very beginning, when Lacy takes it upon herself to seek out Captain Larson and demand that their marriage be consummated in order to establish its legality beyond question. This was not a violins-and-candlelight moment for either character. It was rushed, crude and rather unsettling from my viewpoint. It did, however, give an excellent portrayal of just how little these two people knew each other. Zeb Whitaker escaped from jail and went looking for the three women who he thought had stolen his gold. Lacy was the only one of the three who lived in a town so she was the first logical target. What follows is a wonderful telling of how Lacy and Walker learned to deal with each other and the situations they were thrown into. In the process Lacy learned what it was in Walker's life which made him determined not to be married. There is also a chance to catch up with what has happened with Bailee and Carter McCoy from The Texan's Wager. I recommend all three of the books in this trilogy but my special favorites are The Texan's Wager and this book, A Texan's Luck. Just to be sure you get the whole story I would suggest you get Sarah's story also, When A Texan Gambles. If you already know the writing of Jodi Thomas, you will understand what a treat you have coming. If you have missed her western historical romances so far, this is a very good place to start.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS THOMAS BOOK

I read this last night and finished this morning before starting my day. There was excitment throughout this book as well as a really endearing story of a family's disfunction yet the love of a father that weaves throughout time the love he really held for his youngest son. It was neat having Bailee and Carter's family involved. I would like to have read more about Sarah and her family. I hope there is a book about Dr. Timothy and the old maid in the works that will blend Sarah, Lacey, and Bailee's families into its storyline.

Great Triology

I love Jodi Thomas and after reading the first two i had to get the third. It was excellent. She did not disappoint. I was reintroduced to characters from the past two books and it brought a great conclusion to this trilogy.

Excellent book...

This is the 3rd book in this series & it follows Lacy & Walker. I found that I liked Lacy far better then I did Sarah from the last book & Walker was a great match for her. This was a great ending to this series & it was fun re-vising some of the previous chrachters. I do have to agree with another reviewer who said that the romance took too long to devolop. This has happened in all 3 of these books but then again how can you marry a stranger & then just jump right into the bed? You need time to get to know one another. For those of you who have been hoping for a story about the ranger & Two Bits (Nell) I've read off of Jodi's website that she is writing a story about them. It's going to be called The Texan's Reward. She states that she's finishing it up so hopefully we will see it soon.
