Hi My name's Richard...Bear and Champ, as some of my friends call me-in the Army. During 1966 things were beginning to heat up pretty quickly for U.S. Military people due to Viet Nam. Young men were graduating from high school, joining the work force, and going out on Friday night dates in their new, GTOs. But...that was about to change-real quickly-when the mailman delivered their "Draft-Notice " Come on along with a fine group of young men from Allentown, PA, during 1966, as told through the eyes, mind, and heart of a nineteen-year-old teenager/young man. We're on our way to the induction center and on into Basic Training. Experience the life of young recruits, having their hair cut off, their heartaches for home, loved ones, and all they left behind. Travel ten thousand miles to a foreign land, hear the sound of a spiraling bullet spinning over your head, and open a letter from "back-home" that reads "Dear John."
