An examination of two works of Carolingian literature and art which focus on the pagan hero Hercules: Theodulf of Orleans' poem Contra Iudices, and an ivory throne made for Charlemagne's grandson Charles the Bald, which came to be known as the Cathedra Petri (The Throne of St Peter).
