It was a typical Friday for us, a day I got to work from home. My wife, Linda, had left a few minutes earlier for her weekly bicycle ride with her friend Denise. I received a call from Denise 30 minutes later. That call will live with me forever, ".... something bad had happened, really, really, bad. You need to get here right away " Thus, began a tragic incident which nearly killed Linda and forever impacted her and her family's lives. This is the story, which details what happened to Linda after being struck by a car driven by and irresponsible person who shouldn't have been driving. It covers the trauma of the impact, the surgeries, subsequent suffering, and somehow surviving despite projections that she most likely would not. It includes our experience with dealing with the medical professionals, hospitals and care facilities, insurance nightmares, the "justice" system, and impact on our lives. This is not a happy story, rather is a story of doggedly clinging anyway possible, to survive, with the support of friends and family. The book evolved from a diary of sorts, to share with Linda if she was to recover. The diary was used to create a Victim's Impact Statement, provided to the Ventura Superior Court during the perpetrator's sentencing, which was used for the book This 2nd edition provides some edits and minor updates since the original publication in 2020, including Linda's health and how the criminal trial fared at the appellate court and finally the civil trial, all of which ruled against the defendant, who has never apologized nor paid a penny of restitution.
