Globalization and modernization have created an increasingly diverse and interrelated world. It has compelled all the organizations to move towards a new phenomenon competency.In these perspective, the competencies that individuals need to meet their objective have become more complex, requiring more than the mastery of certain narrowly defined skills. Competencies are becoming a frequent in organizational applications. Competency can be defined as an underlying characteristic required to perform a given task, activity or role. Three factors that are important for identifying competency in a person are Knowledge, Skills and Attitude.Competency differs from industry to industry and from department to department. The brainstorming sessions and pooling of ideas listed three different competencies sets which were identified and the production managers were asked to rate both the level of importance and the level of possession.
