My name is Magdalena Dąbrowska. I'm addicted to alcohol, drugs, and medication, but I have been sober for nineteen years. There was a time when no one believed in me. I had to almost die to now live and enjoy each day. Today, I am an addiction therapist and I help others.
"The Story of (Non) Life" is a true tale - about my addiction and, more accurately, about my journey out of addiction. I made it. I succeeded, even though it was the hardest thing I ever had to do. My family knows it, and everyone who knew me during that difficult time knows it. Fighting against myself was the toughest battle I ever had to face.
In deciding to write this book, I had faith that it would help readers better understand the topic of addiction and give hope to everyone affected by it in some way. I recommend it to anyone who wants to learn about addiction from a different perspective, to see what an addicted person feels, and what it looks like from their point of view. I dedicate it to those who are still fighting their demons. I want you to know that you can overcome your weaknesses, but there is only one condition - honesty with yourself. I also recommend my book to the loved ones of addicted individuals who have lost hope or are on the verge of giving up the fight for that person. I know that not everyone can be helped, but it is always worth trying.
When I started working on the book, I did not anticipate that revisiting those memories would be so difficult and exhausting. There are many moments I would rather not return to, but they are part of my story, part of my life. I feel satisfaction and pride, but most of all, I feel relief. However, I am not the most important here. The most important are you, dear readers. I will be greatly honored and grateful to everyone who decides to learn about my story of addiction and my path to recovery.
