Mary; we know only a first name. We don't know what she looked like, or when she was born. Did she have a favorite color, or enjoy listening to a bird singing, or have a special girl friend? She is the most famous woman in history because she said "yes."The Bible is a wonderful book, but it leaves many things untouched. Some time ago my friend, who is especially fond of praying the rosary, began to designate other events in Mary's life that are not recorded in the Bible, but that must have happened. She began with "Jesus took his first steps." Of course he did, and in any family that is an event. That simple idea inspired me to imagine Mary's actions and reactions from the time just before the angel Gabriel came to speak with her to the very end of her life. What happened when she told her parents that she was pregnant? Why was it important for her to visit her cousin Elizabeth for three months? In Egypt, which the Bible leaves blank, many things must have occurred. Mary was not alone when Jesus was growing up. Though Scripture records not a word of his, I want to know, what did Joseph say? Please join me in what I call "A Story of Mary."
