Thirty-six classic black and white photographs of the Southwest. Dwight Caswell learned photography from Ansel Adams and Brett Weston, and his photographs demonstrate a mastery of tone and technique. Originally a catalog for an exhibit of Caswell's work, the subject matter of these thirty-six photographs varies greatly, from the Grand Canyon to a failed trailer park by the Salton Sea to a child's grave in the desert. There are dramatic landscapes of the dunes and rock formations of Death Valley, Zion, and Arches national parks. There are scenes of a ghost town and of monumental Native American ruins, of cacti and roadside shrines, and of a bighorn mother with her newborn lamb. Included also is a brief chapter on the making of the photographs, including the techniques and equipment used.
