In many parts of the world there are limited resources for experimental work. Much can be done with little or no equipment. This source book, prepared by the International Union of Physiological Sciences Commission on Teaching Physiology, provides some ideas for experiments of this nature. There are 62 experiments given in detail, ranging from those requiring no equipment to those requiring a little sophisticated equipment. In addition, a number of ideas are suggested for experiments which can be worked out by groups of students together with an instructor. To this is added some comments on the sort of equipment which Physiology Departments should aim for as a minimum and on the use of locally available species for animal experiments. This book should help stimulate practical work in physiology, not only in developing countries but also in community colleges and the early university years in the more fortunate areas of the world.
