Roble is a Somali nomad boy who accidentally jumped into a passing truck. This book is about an unlikely journey from the vast Somali desert to a buzzing city for the first time in his life. Roble and his friends were tending to their animals when a truck appeared from nowhere and got their attention. Seeing a truck for the first time in their lives, the boys were mesmerized and ran to the truck to check it out. To their surprise, the truck stopped, and a man came out of it and waved at them to come to the truck. Still bewildered, the boys approached the truck, and the driver offered water and bread, which they thoroughly enjoyed and profusely thanked the driver for the food. Before taking off, the driver invited the boys to climb the truck and check it out, which they enthusiastically did. After a few minutes, the driver told the boys to come down and say good-bye. All the boys except Roble got off the truck and thanked the driver, and the driver, not knowing that Roble was still on the truck, waved the boys good-bye and drove off. As soon as the truck vanished, the boys realized that Roble was still on the truck and ran after it but it was too late They lost their friend. Roble was crying and calling for his friends too, but it was late, and he was gone. The boys went back to Roble's and told the whole story. Heartbroken, the family and the whole community started searching for Roble, but with no luck. After a few harrowing hours, the truck arrived in the city, and the driver found Roble hiding in the truck. He tried to help him, but Roble took off and ran into the buzzing city, not knowing where he was. He just wanted to go home to his family and friends. Roble was now hungry and tired and did not know where he was. He slept under a tall building and woke up the next morning, amazed by all the noise, cars, and so many people in one place. This was his first time in a city. As he kept walking, he saw a bunch of people sitting and eating outside a restaurant. He did not know what a restaurant was. He sat, and a waiter came and told him the food on the menu, and Roble asked to bring anyone. Roble ate the food and left without knowing that he needed to pay. He then went into a clothing store, took clothes, and left without paying. He was finally arrested, and he spent a few days in jail. Finally, he met a boy named Rage, and they became friends. Rage offered Roble to stay at his home, and Roble gladly accepted. Rage, Roble's friend, and his father enrolled Roble in school, and he successfully finished high school, college, and medical school and became a doctor. Roble went back to his family, helped his community, and built a hospital and schools. Roble also got married to Asha, another doctor at his hospital. He finally visited the United States.
