What this book does is unique. It deals with what everyone talks about- -the dangers of radiation and terrorists- -in a way no one has ever done. The characters are completely believable. The intertwining of the abuse of power with the risks of nuclear materials is all the more chilling because the author makes us feel these things could actually happen. Pat Conroy is right- -this great story is an uplifting tribute to the power of the individual. It IS an important book.
"A SINGLE STAR" IS BETTER THAN CLANCY

What a great read! This novel has a gripping and suspenseful plot that realistically addresses terrorist and nuclear threats. And it is very well-written - -Barnett has quite an ear for dialogue! This definitely is the best book I've read in years. I can't wait for his next novel.

A Single Star Rocks!

I am a big fiction reader of Clancey and Grisham and found A Single Star to be one of the best thrillers I have read in some time. Barnetts detail lead me to visualize much of the action and drama as it unfolded in this frightening "what if it happened" story. Although the story centers around a terrorist plot, the characters are developed in such a way to lead to a great sequeal. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good timely thriller.
Five Stars for "A Single Star"

I wish the premises of this insightful novel weren't so chillingly plausible. South Carolina's governor actually confronted the first parts of this deadly scenario in 2002, and the fictional events portrayed in Barnett's book could, indeed, happen just the way he plays them out. Nuclear terrorists don't have to bring the nuclear material into this country (as they did in John Copeland's recent novel, "Retribution"). We have plenty right here to attract the extremist lunatics who infest the 21st century. Like Grisham, Barnett knows his subject intimately and writes with understated intensity. Five stars for "A Single Star."
