Great story of love and betrayal with memorable characters

This novel is a character rich story of love and betrayal. There is the wild, passionate love of youth, forbidden love and the broken love of spouses, parents, grandparents and a young child. Betrayal takes the form of adultery, abandonment and hidden secrets. The characters are multi-layered with real emotions including, jealousy, fear, anger, joy and heartbreak that feel very genuine. The background is India in the 1970's and how changing mores affecting the choice of a marriage partner and how families and extended families interact with each other. There are five excellent characters that are all quite memorable. The novel reads like a page turning thriller. You can't wait to see what happens to people that you really care about. Then comes the emotional wallop. WOW!
