A Scientist’s Daily Life

People often ask me what it means to be a scientist. They usually picture Albert Einstein or Marie Curie lost in an experiment. Today, however, that image no longer fully captures reality.

So, who is a scientist? Broadly speaking, a scientist is a specialist who uses rigorous scientific methods to discover how the world works. But beyond research, modern scientists are versatile managers and strategists. We do not work solely with our minds, but with our hands: we secure project funding, manage tight budgets, navigate risks, write in diverse genres, master new technologies, build international collaborations, and translate research into real-world impact.

This book stems from my own journey in academia. Holding a PhD in Biophysics and Structural Biology, I have worked across leading international research centers, including the University of Strasbourg in France and the University of Rochester in the United States. While my perspective is grounded in biophysics and biochemistry, my goal is not to offer a rigid manual, but to share actionable insights shaped by diverse laboratory contexts.
