A sad story told with a smile: A Holocaust survivors story

If you liked The Tattooist of Auschwitz, you will be gripped by this fascinating story. A true story written by an Auschwitz survivor's son of how his father lived through the World War II Holocaust. Starting in the early days before the war, full of warmth and happiness, young Czeslaw lived a carefree existence in Warsaw, but as the horrors of World War II unfolded, his life and those of everyone around him was thrown into turmoil. The occupation of Warsaw brought violence and fear to the city; revenge shootings and beatings became commonplace in the streets and people simply disappeared. Aged 18, Czeslaw's home is burned to the ground, he is rounded up by the Nazis, torn away from his family and boards a cattle waggon that he is told is taking him to Germany for work. Only at the train's final destination does he realise he has been tricked and has been transported to one of the worst places imaginable, Auschwitz-Birkenau. His life was never to be the same again. My father told me stories of the events that affected him during the war, however it was only when I started to write the book that I truly discovered the hatred, evil, and unbelievable sadness that he had endured. Yet even amongst such atrocities, there was still romance and goodness in people to be found.
