Only at the train's final destination does he realise he has been tricked and has been transported to one of the worst places imaginable, Auschwitz-Birkenau. His life was never to be the same again. My father told me stories of the events that affected him during the war, however it was only when I started to write the book that I truly discovered the hatred, evil, and unbelievable sadness that he had endured. Yet even amongst such atrocities, there was still romance and goodness in people to be found.
