Good book

This was a good book. It was long, but never bored me. I am not a golf fan, but the sport was described in such a way that I understood the game and going ons. It made the book even more interesting. It was so romantic. I loved it.

Beau is my hero!

As a sports nut (I subscribe to ESPN magazine) and as a woman that enjoys both watching golf on television and reading interracial romance stories, this book was my proverbial "hole in one"!I was disappointed with some of the other reviewers that claimed that this book lagged because of the golf details. Golf is all about the details (as you would know if you ever played the game)! Believe me, Ms. Tomlinson could have become even more long-winded with descriptions! If you have ever been on a golf course, it is truly a sensory experience! Golf courses often have many breathtaking views and are located in exotic places. Bottom line, if sports (golf in this particular case) stories are not your thing, don't read them (and spare us from having to read your review on how you did not like the sports aspect of the story)!Anyway, the quality of the storyline was believable up to a point. The reason that Perri and Beau were seperated did not seem realistic enough to this reader. Because I believed so strongly in the love Perri and Beau built, it was impossible for me to believe that a meddling grandad would be enough to cause an eight-year rift in such a solid relationship.I fell in love with Beau in this book. I loved the fact that the only "superhuman" quality Ms. Tomlinson gave him was that he is the golf pro. He is portrayed in a realistic manner even though his is a fictional character.As for the length of the book, it is worth every penny! I am tired of spending $8.99 for 200 pages of nothing worth reading.

Truly enjoyable

I couldn't put this book down. It opened the world of golf in a understanding and enjoyable way. I loved the relationship between Beau and Perri. Although not over-run with the sexual situations, the sexual tension was great and the scenes that were written were hot. Great book!

Frustrating at Times, But Truly Enjoyable

I loved this book, even after finding myself becoming somewhat frustrated with it's heroine, Perri. Her reasons for withholding information from the hero, Beau, were much too weak for me. Thank goodness he was so persistent in his pursuit of her, for any normal man would have thrown in the towel on this relationship. One has to wonder why after so many years these two people, supposedly deeply in love, never bothered to find out what happened to end their union. They pretty much could have simply picked up a phone if they really wanted to know. And if you're as in love as these two professed to be, why not do just that? Even after they found each other the truth took it's own sweet time coming out, with each of the two lovers not having enough trust in the other to really explore the breakup. I know trust is the theme of the book, and the lack of it resulted in years of sadness, loneliness, hurt and unnecessary suffering. All of which could have been avoided had Beau and Perri trusted each other enough to confide in one another. This is the story of two people who virtually grew up together, later realizing they were in love. They married young, only to be torn apart by a deceitful, overbearing grandfather, who gives one reason for destroying the marriage throughout the book, but confesses to another when he is exposed. These two people's paths eventually cross again when Beau, a professional golfer, hires Perri, his ex wife as a caddy. Working so closely together starts the old sparks flying again, and a love is rekindled. At least they want it to be, but one has a hard time admitting it to the other. There's also someone in the picture who is out to get Beau, be it through Perri if necessary. Despite a few flaws I really loved the book. I had a very hard time putting it down. I really mean that. Perri was sort of frustrating at times, mainly because she refused to let Beau in on some vitally important information of which she had no right to keep from him. After they found each other again there really was no reason, in my opinion, for her not to inform him of the truth. Nonetheless, I still fell in love with the book, and would highly recommend it. In fact, Dar Tomlinson has become one of my favorite romance novelist. I plan to search for more of her work.

Love comquers all-even golf

Beau St. Cyr is pro golf's leading money winner and considered a near sure shot to complete the grand slam, having already won the first three events. Unbeknownst to Beau is that Perri needs money for her seven-year old daughter's heart surgery. Eight years ago, Beau's grandfather Braden paid Perri to leave her spouse because he felt she was socially and racially inferior stock. He also wanted Beau to concentrate on his golf game. Knowing she was pregnant with Beau's child and Braden hinting that her spouse no longer wanted her initiated the offer of good-bye money. Perri reluctantly accepted the bribe. As he goes for the Grand Slam, he needs her to caddie and help with the difficult technical decisions. She needs his help with her little girl. Neither one expected the putt to renew their love, but unknown to either of them someone wants the duo to hook their shot into another double bogie. A RISK OF RAIN is an entertaining contemporary romance that easily breaks par for readers. The story line is fun as the mixed race couple heats up the pages with their unresolved passion for one another. The golf segments augments the tale with eighteen holes of depth. Still one must wonder why Perri failed to talk to Beau and why he does not know about having a daughter or why Perri no longer plays professionally. Dar Tomlinson has written a powerfully emotional novel that seems so timely with the success of Tiger Woods.Harriet Klausner
