A Raging Flame is set in 1941, the Battle of Britain is over but German bombing continues. London has a rapidly rising crime rate, which the police are struggling to combat.
The police force has been depleted by the younger officers being conscripted into the armed forces. Detective Inspector Wilson and Sergeant Dixon from Scotland Yard are called in to investigate a vicious series of murders. They all appear to be by the same man, but are they?
As they get deeper into the case, it becomes apparent that there may be more than one person involved and how do these crimes tie in with the theft of arms from Home Guard stores.
The detectives need help, and it comes via the police labs in Henley, in the form of valuable forensic information.
