The book follows the life of Lyle Ochoa who grew up in a family whose father was a member of the Mexican Mafia in Fresno, California. When his father met an untimely death, Lyle, against his will, was obligated to follow in his father's footsteps. Lyle became the "Sweetheart" of the Mexican Mafia since he was a standout football player who demonstrated skills beyond the norm. He attended USC and received All American honors. He was drafted into the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks and became the talk of the town. However, all during this time he was under the thumb of the Mexican Mafia doing their unsavory business.
