I read this book in the early 1970s when I was a chem major and a physicist wannabe. It was a perfect introduction to the QM formalism. Keep in mind, the title says "primer". It is, but after reading this book, you'll be ready for Albert Messiah's magnificent "non-primer". Gillespie's book is one of those little gems that are short and where every page is worth reading. It is accessible, satisfying, a great first-step. So, why did I come back here after all these years? My CS colleagues are all a buzz about quantum computing, but they don't know the basics. No way am I going to lend them MY copy of this book but I thought I'd buy another one and pass it around.
Saved my life!

I was a grad student in Physics when I read this beautiful little book. After studying QM for three years (2 years undergrad and 1 year grad), I knew all the rules but the subject still made no sense to me. Gillespie's short book is a model of clarity, explaining the big ideas, explaining what is a assumed (postulate) and what is derived (theorem), and tying the diverse threads of this subject into a beautiful and powerful whole. I will be forever grateful to this book, because after reading it, QM made sense and I knew I could become a physicist.
Inspirational ... Very Good!

I read this little book a long time ago. It was beautiful and inspirational. It inspired me to want to know something about functional analysis ( now I do) and also got to the essence of things very simply. It is one of the best little books I have ever read.
