Disputation speech has been a loosely used term in form critical study of the prophets. The prophets frequently quote the people's words in order to refute them. This study proposes that this technique alone merits the designation disputation speech. A critical assessment is given of how disputation speech has been presented in genre study. A detailed analysis of all prophetic text whit the quotation-refutation structure follows. Also included methodological note, an overall view of the parts of the disputation speech structure, and a description of the setting in life.
