A Princess of Mars: Annotated Version with Foreword by Michael A. Stackpole

From the legendary master of adventure Edgar Rice Burroughs...

The book that launched a thousand imaginations, now in a fine new authorized edition

John Carter is on the run. His prospecting partner is dead, and the killers are hot on his trail.

Seeking refuge in the rugged Arizona hills, John hides in a cave only to succumb to strange vapors. When he awakens, he finds himself far from his pursuers...and far from Earth-on the planet Barsoom, better known to us as Mars.

Enslaved by green-skinned warriors called Tharks, he soon meets his fellow prisoner-the stunningly beautiful Deja Thoris, a red Martian and Princess of Helium. John resolves to free them both, setting in motion events that will shape the destiny of Barsoom forever.

Embark on a saga of war, romance, and high adventure that spans the stars and recalls the age of mythic heroes in the first volume of Edgar Rice Burroughs' epic John Carter of Mars series.

A Princess of Barsoom

"I have never told this story, nor shall mortal man see this m-a-n-u-s-c-r-i-p-t until I have passed over for eternity. I know that the average human mind will not believe what it cannot grasp......” Written in 1912, this book is well-written for its time and has intrigued countless generations of readers. I get the feeling that this story is being told over a campfire. Captain Carter is telling the story from memory, like an old man of his adventures here on Earth and on the planet of Barsoom (Mars). There are encounters with many strange creatures, situations, and yes, even a "Princess of Mars.” It is a tale worth reading as he encounters many creatures that are different personas of humans, horses, dogs, and so on. This book, also titled “Under the Moons of Mars,” is a part of a series by the writer that brought us “Tarzan.” The intro to the book alone will capture your imagination.
