Church bookkeeping plays a pivotal role in the financial stewardship and sustainability of a religious organization. In this chapter, we will explore why accurate and transparent bookkeeping is essential for churches, supported by real-life examples. Church bookkeeping is not just about numbers; it's about transparency, compliance, accountability, informed decision-making, and building trust within the congregation. This section has provided examples to emphasize the critical role of church bookkeeping in fulfilling these objectives. In the following section, we will delve deeper into the practical aspects of implementing effective church bookkeeping practices.
This book is close to useless. It contains almost no actual details about bookkeeping. It casually mentions double-entry bookkeeping twice and gives two primitive examples, but gives little attention to the whole credit/debit concept. It’s almost entirely a treatise on why it’s important to do keep accurate transparent records (including Biblical references), not so much how. On top of that, many things are repetitive. The formatting is terrible, it’s as if it was formatted for a larger paper size and the publisher changed it to smaller paper without checking for the effect. Example tables/charts are split across pages awkwardly, even words are split across lines inappropriately. Some chapter titles start at the bottom of a page. There may be a couple of nuggets in there, but it wasn’t what I was looking for, i.e. what was suggested by the title.
