Many people believe that it began when a young man placed gift wrapping around an uncooked potato's and threw them in the front yards of houses decorated for Christmas as a way of saying thank you and how much he appreciated all the work they did to keep the magic of Christmas.
When Granny was a little girl one such special seasonal spud paid her a visit. They spent that Christmas day together and became fast friends. The Christmas potato promised to return to visit her every year. Until one year he didn't return. Granny missed her little friend She wished to spend Christmas with him once again.
