A PLAY OF MASQUERADERS depicts the shenanigans of those who parade themselves as ministers of God, how they exploit the base religious sentiments of their congregation to fester their diabolical lifestyle. It is a portrayal of the hypocrisy and deceit that have entered the church. The protagonist, Kakamoto, an itinerant masquerader and con artist, discovering that the new wave of religion is depleting his patrons and income, joins a mega church and soon worms his way into the hearts of the General Overseer. When it becomes obvious that Amolade, the General Overseer, must retire from the church, he imposes Kakamoto on the church as his successor instead of Titokoro who is favoured by the congregation. To secure and sustain the loyalty of influential members of the church, Kakamoto resorts to bribery. Titokoro, who is the lone voice of propriety, is persecuted because he will not join the horde of masqueraders. There appears to be a flicker of hope when Kakamoto has to leave the church hastily and Titokoro is installed as the General Overseer. With the reformist Titokoro at the helms and his wife having her own duplicitous agenda, the stage is set for another roulette.
