wonderful bilingual play

Wish this were still widely available. I first saw this play performed by the authors - several different times. I wrote the authors for a copy when I was working in a school with a large bilingual population. Now I have many Salvadoran students who don't know their own history that deeply. I would love to perform it but haven't found the appropriate setting yet. enjoy

A brilliant and moving play

I had the good fortune to see Gould and Stearns perform this play in 1989. It's a moving play about the brutalities of the civil war in El Salvador, as seen through the eyes of an average poor farmer, a decent familiy man just struggling to survive. Gould and Stearns use humor (often gentle, sometimes harshly satirical) to tell this story, while still providing a trenchant analysis of the near-feudal economics and politics of El Salvador, and the support of the American government and American corporations for the repressive regime throughout the civil war. This play is a must for all students and practitioners of political theater.
