ONE BLACK GIRL'S WORLD OF POVERTY AND PURPOSEA Pact with God is the story of Lorine Willis, an identical twin girl about to be conceived into this natural world. She was a child of providence with supernatural powers to relate to God, one-on-one. She asked Him to allow her to choose her family on earth-the Willis family who already had 11 children, including a set of twins, all suffering from extreme poverty, and the hardship of racism and cotton-picking during the Great Depression of '29. This beautiful unborn begs and sniffles out her promises that she will make something of herself, and help a few other folks too. God agreed and they signed the "goodness agreement." Her purpose in life is about to begin-a life full of emotions, suffering, hardships. In the womb of her mother. Lorine is not happy for the company; she finds Lorise kicking her in the middle of the night. Lorine can feel the family number will soon go from 11 to 13. At the time she asked God for this family, and her twin wasn't on her mind. She turned out to be a mean little bully. Lorine got in a few kicks too, but the fights, love, and loyalty kept them from dying in that little Public Housing acre of land where the family raised vegetables and chickens to eat to keep from starving.Lorene is allowed to see solutions in the supernatural and feel the fallout of the Civil War, President Lincoln's assassination, Reconstruction, and the Radical Plan to aid newly freed slaves. She could feel vibrations rise and fall. She deeply felt the U.S Constitution's Amendments 13, 14, 15-Amendment 13 ended slavery, Amendment 14 granted citizenship to African Americans, and Amendment 15 granted African Americans the Right to Vote, which met with a formidable poll tax, and every other kind of "citizen" blockage-and a child will know it. Union Republicans tire of the South and return north. Lorine's prayers, and hopes urge her family to go north too. But it's not easy. She has to drop southern accents, learn northern racism. She survives the marriage out of hell. She gives birth to a blind son. Her Pact takes her to the Virgin Islands to get a Master's Degree... A million pieces of universe dust takes her to Los Angeles where she guides her son to self-sufficiency and her daughter become a movie star. Her home views the Hollywood sign. She quietly gives God thanks that she asked for a gift bigger than herself, and God, as always, agreed.
