I really enjoyed A Murder in Time. It’s a mix of time travel, mystery, and historical fiction, and it somehow manages to pull all of that off in a way that feels fresh and interesting. The story follows Kendra Donovan, a modern-day FBI agent who ends up back in 1815 England. She’s smart, sharp, and totally out of place—which makes watching her navigate the past really entertaining.
The murder mystery at the heart of the book is genuinely suspenseful, and I liked how Kendra uses her modern knowledge of forensics to help solve it—even though she’s stuck in a time when people barely understand basic hygiene. It made for some really cool contrasts and challenges. The historical setting was well done, too—I could picture the clothes, the castles, the social rules (and how frustrating they must have been).
Kendra can be a little intense sometimes, and I didn’t always connect with her emotionally, but I appreciated her determination and how she held her ground in a world that didn’t take women seriously. Some of the side characters weren’t super developed in this first book, but a few of them definitely grew on me as the series went on.
I've read the entire series now, and I think this book sets things up really well. Each installment builds on the last, and it’s been fun watching the characters grow and the relationships evolve. If you like historical mysteries or anything involving time travel, I’d definitely recommend starting here. It’s a fun and clever read that only gets better.

Our book club selected this to read for May. I tried to read the first introduction & it was making me sick. The psycho killing ( in detail ) young damsels. I put the book down & waited a week. Then I skipped the beginning & started where the girl ( FBI) agent gets caught in the time warp. I so do not like descriptions of any kind of abuse. And especially from a female author. How un-lady like. I doubt people hired 'hermits" to live in their woods. But it was at least endurable until the end when it was the FBI agent who was the damsel in distress. I do not perpetuate such graphic nonsense & would hate for anyone to copy cat it. I don't think the secret societies existed like that. Men rouges maybe. But this is not a sit-down-ladies-talk-about book. I won't buy any more of her books.
