A Missing Peace

BJ is a black teenager who lives in a world of abuse and trauma. After seeing a sign hanging precariously from the side of a church, BJ creates the irreverent and free-spirited J sus S ves, to help her deal with the many difficult situations which she encounters. Her story takes places in between the 70's and early '90's and begins in Columbia Gardens, a Black, lower middle-class community in East Oakland. Through BJ's memories we see the bonds of childhood friendships, of a family in pain, and her struggles with sexual identity and mental health.

Rosalyn is a proud and out lesbian. She is also a native of the San Francisco Bay Area who grew up in working class and brown communities in Oakland, CA before the addition of the moniker "Oakland(ish)." Her dream is to see a resurgent Oakland which will honor the legacy of positive black communities that have forged the way for the present day conscious(ness). Her priority is to provide tools, create opportunities, and develop communities to help educate and empower Black people by sharing our stories.
