A nice work for younger readers

When I purchased this book, I didn't realize it was for younger readers. That doesn't detract from its usefulness as a reference for the Medieval Merchant class. It is a quick read with a decent bibliography. Web sites that are also cited are carefully chosen for the content. There are a couple of items that made me give this a lower rating, chief amongst them is the perpetuation of two misconceptions regarding the middle ages, 1) that people were dirty, and 2) that spices were used to cover the taste of rotten meat. Otherwise, it is an ideal introduction into the subject. For a more in-depth study, I highly recommend Peter Spufford's "Power and Profit".
