A brain teaser

The Film has an all-star cast. You can tell from the quality and pacing that this is a Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger movie. It was made after WWII. “This is a story of two Worlds, the one we know and another which exists only in the mind of a young airman whose life & imagination have been violently shaped by war.” A British wartime aviator, Peter Carter (David Niven), jumps from a burning plane without a parachute. He seems to have avoided death by accident. They want him back up above where he should be. Too late, as he has fallen in love with June (Kim Hunter), an American radio operator who was concerned about his last minutes, and he demands a trial. We see the problem and the solution, but will he win? We get to watch and do a little kibitzing on the side. As the trial unfolds, we get the feeling that this trial is bigger than just two people in love. “Love” by Scott, Sir Walter, 1771–1832 “In peace, Love tunes the shepherd’s reed. In war, he mounts the warrior’s steed. In halls, in gay attire is seen. In Hamlet's dances on the green. Love rules the court, the camp, the grove, And men below and saints above. For love is heaven, and heaven is love.” ------------------- Be sure to get the DVD with the voice-over commentary.
