The Magic of Christmas is always felt strongly in the Maritimes. This collection of yuletide stories is a mixture of true seasonal remembrances and fictional imaginings of the holiday season.... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Two things I knew about Clary Croft was his friendship with historian Dr. Helen Creighton and his appearances on CBC's Singalong Jubilee. I once wrote Croft a handwritten letter and he responded in kind. Croft writes the introduction to the book. He relates the stories to Christmas cards. There's also a mention of shooting turkeys that made me cringe. The introduction is as good as any story in the book. There wasn't one story or memory in the book that I did not enjoy. While reading each story, I made a comment or two but decided to review the book overall. If you are alone this Christmas, curl up in your favorite chair (or bed) and have this book in hand. It's a bit of everything: sadness, warmth, and utter happiness. The authors reflect our Maritime heritage precisely and I highly commend each author. But there's more: take the time to ponder the images and illustrations sprinkled throughout the book. "A Maritime Christmas" is the perfect book as well if you have a family member who is too old to read for themselves. Sit by the fire and read them these stories. I guarantee you that you will entertain them. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
